  • Arthroscopy / Sports Injuries
Sports injuries are commonly caused by overuse, direct impact, or the application of force that is greater than the body part can structurally withstand. There are two kinds of sports injuries: acute and chronic. An injury that occurs suddenly, such as a sprained ankle caused by an awkward landing, is known as an acute injury. Chronic injuries are caused by repeated overuse of muscle groups or joints.

Sports Injury Prevention

Physical activity is an important part of maintaining overall health. However, certain precautions should be taken to minimize the risk of sports injuries. Using the correct equipment and maintaining equipment can help prevent sports injuries. Wearing the recommended protective gear can help shield the body against injury. Resting between workouts gives the body time to rest and repair. Starting activity slowly and gradually increasing strength, flexibility, and endurance gives muscles, bones, and other tissues the opportunity to adapt to more difficult workouts, minimizing the risk of injury. Finally, listening to the body and backing off at the first signs of pain, discomfort, stress, or overheating will help reduce the risk of sports injuries.

Some Of The Common Sports Injuries Include:
Sprain And Strain

A joint sprain is the overstretching or tearing of ligaments. Ligaments are the bands of tissue that connect two bones together in a joint. The most common location for a sprain is the ankle joint. A joint strain is the overstretching or tearing of muscles or tendons. Tendons are the dense fibrous cords of tissue that connect bones to muscles. The most common locations for a muscle strain are the hamstring muscle and the lower back. Symptoms include pain, swelling and stiffness.

Shoulder Injuries

Common sporting injuries of the shoulder include dislocations, Acromioclavicular joint (ACJ) injuries, rotator cuff injuries, Labral tears, thrower’s shoulder, biceps injuries, bursitis and fractur

Skier's Thumb

Skier’s thumb is an injury to the ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) of the thumb metacarpophalangeal joint (MCPJ) which has a serious risk of disabling chronic instability if not treated adequately. The lesion most often occurs in skiers when the ski pole forces the thumb to deviate radially.

Tennis Elbow

Tennis elbow (lateral epicondylitis) is a painful condition that occurs when tendons in your elbow are overloaded, usually by repetitive motions of the wrist and arm. Despite its name, athletes aren’t the only people who develop tennis elbow.

Golfer's Elbow

Golfer’s elbow is a condition that causes pain where the tendons of your forearm muscles attach to the bony bump on the inside of your elbow. The pain might spread into your forearm and wrist. Golfer’s elbow is similar to tennis elbow, which occurs on the outside of the elbow.

Knee Joint Injuries

knee injuries can range from minor bruises to fractures. There may be injuries to meniscus and/or cruciate ligaments. (ACL/PCL). Not all knee pain is serious, but some knee injuries and medical conditions, such as osteoarthritis, can lead to increasing pain, joint damage and disability if left untreated. And having a knee injury , even a minor one ,makes it more likely that you’ll have similar injuries in the future. . In some cases; such as ACL tears ; surgery can be done arthroscopically using miniature instruments and small incisions.

Stress Fractures

Stress fractures –The impact of repeated jumping or running on hard surfaces can eventually stress and crack bone particularly in the lower limbs.

Hamstring Injuries

A pulled hamstring or strain is an injury to one or more of the muscles at the back of the thigh. Most hamstring injuries respond well to simple, nonsurgical treatments.

Shin Splints

Shin splints(medial tibial stress syndrome) are a common overuse injury. This injury happens when the muscles and bones in the lower leg pull and become irritated. Athletes (especially runners), members of the military and people with osteoporosis are at a higher chance of developing shin splints. Shin splints can turn into stress fractures.

Turf Toe

“Turf toe” is the common term used to describe a sprain of the ligaments around the big toe joint. Although it’s commonly associated with football players who play on artificial turf, it affects athletes in other sports including soccer, basketball, wrestling, gymnastics, and dance. It’s a condition that’s caused by jamming the big toe or repeatedly pushing off the big toe forcefully as in running and jumping.

Achilles Tendon Injury

Achilles tendinitis is an overuse injury of the Achilles tendon, the band of tissue that connects calf muscles at the back of the lower leg to your heel bone. Achilles tendinitis most commonly occurs in runners who have suddenly increased the intensity or duration of their runs.

Orthopedic trauma typically refers to an injury caused by some external force, such as a severe fall, a serious accident, or even a violent attack. These injuries occur in the musculoskeletal system, including bones, cartilage, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons of the body. Common injuries include fractures, ligament tears, tendon tears, and joint dislocations.
